An F-16 reportedly crashed Thursday in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, after the pilot parachuted from the aircraft and was found conscious and alert.
The aircraft went down near County Road 633 and Blair Townhall Road, according to local officials. Traffic in the area has been shut down as emergency crews respond to the scene, according to Grand Traverse County Dispatch.
The aircraft was identified as an F-16, and officials said they do not believe anyone on the ground was injured or that any homes were damaged, according to Michigan State Police.
The F-16 is part of the 149th Fighter Wing from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas. Student and instructor pilots from the wing were heading to Michigan to take part in Operation Northern Cactus out of the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, according to News 8.
A shelter-in-place order has been issued for residents along County Road 633 from Jefferson Place to Blair Townhall Road. Residents in the affected area have been told to stay indoors, close their windows and vents, and follow instructions from emergency personnel.
Grand Traverse County Emergency Management asked people to stay away from the crash area and said the shelter-in-place order applies only to residents within the indicated area.
