7 people injured, including a 3-year-old, after shooting in Baltimore, Maryland

Seven people were injured in a shooting in Baltimore City, Maryland, Wednesday night, including a 3-year-old boy, according to police.

The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Fayette Street. An officer was patrolling the area when he heard gunshots and arrived to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

The officer immediately placed the 3-year-old boy in his vehicle and drove him to a nearby hospital, where the child underwent surgery. Other officers remained at the scene to assist the other victims until medics arrived.

Police said all 7 victims are suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Fayette Street and Caroline Street were blocked as police investigated the shooting. Authorities said multiple suspects were involved in the shooting and are asking the public for any information that could help identify them.

The mayor urged the suspects to turn themselves in, saying authorities are actively searching for them.

Police said they do not yet know whether any of the victims were related to the shooters.
