The family of NBC Los Angeles reporter Eliana Moreno has released a statement following her death in a helicopter crash in Chatsworth, Los Angeles.
Eliana Moreno was killed Tuesday when a media helicopter operated by Angel City Air crashed in the San Fernando Valley while covering a collision between a SUV and Metro bus for NBC4 and Telemundo 52. The pilot, George Marciniw, was also killed in the crash. A pedestrian on the ground, 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia, was also killed.
Moreno’s family said she had dreamed of becoming a news reporter since she was 11 years old and worked to turn that dream into reality.
The family thanked the people who welcomed Moreno into their homes and watched her on their screens, saying their support meant more to her than they may ever know.
“We find comfort in knowing that Eliana left this world doing the very thing she loved, pursuing the passion she carried with her since she was a little girl,” the family said.
They also thanked those who had shown support to Moreno’s parents, siblings, fiancé, step-parents and loved ones.
“We are infinitely proud of her and feel incredibly blessed to have had the privilege of loving her and calling her ours,” they said.
The family asked people to continue keeping Moreno, her pilot George Marciniw, 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia and those killed in the Metro bus collision in their thoughts and prayers.
Moreno’s brother also warned that the family and Moreno’s fiancé are not collecting monetary donations at this time and said any online donation pages are not endorsed by the family.
