2 killed after small plane crashes into Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri

Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a small plane crashed into Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash involved a Cirrus SR22 aircraft that went down near Public Beach Drive in Camden County at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. Two people were aboard the aircraft.

Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed both occupants died in the crash. First responders were working to identify the victims and notify their next of kin.

Osage Beach Mayor Richard Ross said the plane had taken off from Lee C. Fine Memorial Airport in Miller County and crashed shortly afterward in Lake of the Ozarks State Park.

The FAA confirmed that both it and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide further updates as information becomes available.

The FAA said its preliminary accident report is expected to be published on the next business day.

No additional details about the circumstances of the crash or the identities of the victims have been released.
