An Air Force contractor has been charged in federal court over allegations that he lost a classified national defense document and possessed multiple firearms at Joint Base San Antonio, including a loaded rifle and handgun found in his vehicle.
Zachry Wade Carroll, 47, of San Antonio, was arrested Saturday in Comal County on federal warrants and appeared in court in San Antonio on Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.
An indictment alleges that Carroll lost a classified document related to national defense in April 2025 and failed to report it to his supervisor.
The charges also involve alleged firearm possession at Joint Base San Antonio’s Kelly Annex in November 2025. Prosecutors say Carroll carried a loaded .380-caliber firearm while working inside a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, or SCIF.
The indictment further alleges that a search of his vehicle on the base uncovered a loaded AR-15 with 85 rounds of ammunition and 3 magazines, as well as a loaded 9mm handgun with 20 rounds and 3 magazines.
When asked whether he was armed, Carroll allegedly denied carrying the unauthorized .380-caliber firearm, according to the indictment.
He faces 1 count of losing national defense information, 2 counts of possessing a firearm in a federal facility and 1 count of making false statements. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 17 years in prison.
The FBI and Air Force Office of Special Investigations are investigating the case. Carroll is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
