A 21-year-old Florida woman was arrested after allegedly posting a social media threat to shoot President Donald Trump ahead of his planned rally in Daytona Beach, officials said.
Allison Albro, of Daytona Beach, was taken into custody early Friday after posting a photo of herself with a caption threatening to shoot Trump with a Glock, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
“Going to the Trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! Wish me luck guys!!” Albro allegedly wrote in the post Thursday night.
The post was flagged by the U.S. Secret Service, which contacted the sheriff’s office. Deputies from the department’s Domestic Security Unit then went to Albro’s home, where she reportedly acknowledged making the post.
According to the arrest report, Albro told deputies the message was “obviously a joke” and said she did not own a Glock, disliked guns and would never hurt anyone. She also reportedly said she was emotionally upset and admitted she did not like the president. A search of her home found no weapons.
Albro was charged with written threats to kill or cause bodily injury and unlawful use of a communications device.
Trump was scheduled to hold a rally at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach on Friday, with his speech expected to begin at 7 p.m.
“We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president,” Chitwood said, adding that his department was working with the Secret Service and other federal agencies to ensure security during the visit.
