Kentucky State Police are searching for a wanted suspect after a “severe attack” on an officer on Interstate 65 in Warren County, Kentucky, Monday afternoon.
The incident happened on northbound I-65 near mile marker 38. KSP said the incident involved a trooper, but details about what led to the shooting have not been released.
Authorities are searching for a bluish-gray Honda Civic with an Alabama temporary tag, TN018596. The vehicle was last seen near I-65 North at the 75-mile marker, according to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the suspect may be a Black man with dreadlocks pulled into a bun on top of his head. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are warning the public not to approach him or the vehicle.
KSP issued a Blue Alert following the incident. The alert is used when law enforcement is searching for a suspect following a serious incident involving an officer.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet set up a detour at Exit 30 while authorities investigated the scene. Traffic in the area may remain affected as the investigation continues.
The identity and condition of the trooper involved have not been released. Police have also not released the identity of the suspect.
