Three staff members were hospitalized and a suspect was arrested Monday after a shooting at a senior living facility in South Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the Progressive Home for the Elderly in the 7000 block of Denver Avenue, near South Figueroa Street and West Florence Avenue, at around 10:50 a.m.
Deputy Chief Mark Green said officers arrived within about two minutes and entered the lobby, where they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds.
The call was then upgraded to a possible active shooter response, and additional officers responded to the facility. Police provided medical aid to the victims and removed them from the building.
Officers searching the facility located a suspect on a different floor and took the person into custody without incident, Green said.
One of the victims is in critical condition, while the other two were reported to be in stable condition. All three victims were staff members at the facility, according to LAPD.
The three staff members were described as a Hispanic woman in her 40s, a Black woman in her 70s and a Black man in his 60s, the suspect is a Black man in his 60s according to LAPD.
No residents were injured in the shooting.
A witness, a caregiver for one of the residents, said she was signing into the building when she saw the shooting begin. She said the suspect pulled out a gun and said something to the effect of, “I’m tired of this,” before opening fire, according to KTLA.
