SUV and Metro bus collision leaves 2 dead, 8 injured in San Fernando Valley

Two people were killed and eight others were injured Tuesday afternoon after a collision between an SUV and a Metro bus in the San Fernando Valley.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. along Nordhoff Street at the intersection with De Soto Avenue in the Chatsworth area, involving a Ford Expedition and a Metro bus. The SUV was lodged inside the bus, according to Los Angeles Fire Department officials.

The Ford Expedition was occupied only by the driver, who was killed in the crash. One person aboard the Metro bus was also killed.

Eight patients suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical, in addition to the two fatalities.

At least one person was trapped in the wreckage as firefighters worked to free them. Firefighters also assessed passengers aboard the bus and treated those who were injured.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, according to the LAFD.
