The NYPD is investigating multiple shootings that happened Monday near the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn, with several people injured.
Police responded to a shooting near Nostrand Avenue and St. John’s Place in Crown Heights shortly after 4 p.m., where a man, 24, was wounded in the buttocks.
A person was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered following the shooting.
In a separate shooting, a 37-year-old woman was also shot near Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, while another man, 19, was grazed in the leg, police said. The shootings occurred at separate locations near the parade route. Both victims are listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
Two suspects fled toward Albany Avenue. One was wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans, while the other was wearing a white shirt, according to ABC7.
Security was also increased for this year’s event, with police establishing checkpoints equipped with metal detectors and banning bags along the parade route.
The shootings occurred less than two hours before the parade was scheduled to end at 5:30 p.m.
