Large plumes of smoke seen at Houston airport after restaurant fire

A fire broke out at a restaurant inside George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon, forcing passengers in the immediate area to relocate as a precaution.

The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at Ember restaurant in Terminal C North at approximately 4:20 p.m., officials said. Passengers nearby were temporarily moved while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The fire was put out at approximately 5:20 p.m., according to the Houston Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

At 7:20 p.m., the airport said firefighters had completed their work, but Terminal C North remained temporarily closed for precautionary reasons and cleanup.

“Terminal C South and all other terminals are operational,” the airport said, advising passengers to check with their airlines for updated terminal and gate information.

The Houston Fire Department’s Arson Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire. Officials have not released further details about how it started.

Images from the scene showed smoke as Houston firefighters responded. ABC13’s helicopter captured footage of emergency crews at the airport on Tuesday afternoon.
