Teen arrested after shooting injures 12 people following FAMU homecoming game

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a shooting injured 12 people in Tallahassee, Florida, shortly after Florida A&M University’s homecoming football game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday night, police said Monday.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday near Perry and Manatee streets, several blocks from Bragg Memorial Stadium, where the homecoming game had ended around 6 p.m.

Anthony Rivers III was arrested Sunday, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. Following consultation with State Attorney Jack Campbell, Rivers was charged with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

Police said preliminary findings indicate that a physical altercation took place before shots were fired. Investigators believe the dispute involved people who knew each other, and none of the 12 victims appeared to have been the intended targets.

Eleven of the victims were shot, while another suffered an ankle injury while fleeing the gunfire. The injured included adults and juveniles, with some victims taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the arrest marked an important step in the investigation but that detectives were continuing to gather evidence and work to establish what happened.

“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” Revell said. “While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy.”

Police thanked members of the public who provided tips, photos, videos and other digital evidence. Investigators said additional arrests remain possible.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Tallahassee Police Department’s tip line at 850-891-4610. Photos, videos and other evidence can also be submitted through the department’s online evidence portal.
