Two law enforcement officers were shot Friday near Pink Hill in southern Lenoir County, North Carolina, with authorities warning residents to avoid the area as the scene remains active.
The shooting was reported before 12:40 p.m. along Jonestown Road, northeast of Pink Hill. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene, according to the NC SBI and CBS 17.
The NC SBI said it was responding to Jonestown Road after receiving reports that law enforcement officers had been shot. The agency did not release the identities or conditions of the officers.
Two crisis negotiators from the Greenville Police Department were also called to assist with the response. Other law enforcement agencies, including the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Pink Hill Police Department, were also involved.
The scene remains active, and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and NC SBI are asking the public to stay away from the area.
Authorities have not identified any suspect or said how many people may be involved in the shooting. It is also unclear what led to the gunfire or whether anyone else was injured.
