A small plane crashed Thursday afternoon in a heavily wooded area on the west side of Paine Field in Everett, Washington, with an unknown number of people injured, officials said.
The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. Emergency crews, including Paine Field Fire and additional fire units, responded to the scene.
A picture shared online showed a large plume of smoke rising from the area following the crash.
Paine Field Airport first reported the incident shortly after 3:30 p.m. and confirmed that injuries had been reported.
Officials have not yet released the number of people injured, the severity of their injuries or whether anyone was killed. The identities of those involved have also not been released.
Authorities have not said what type of plane crashed or what led to the incident. The crash occurred in a heavily wooded area, and emergency crews remain at the scene.
People are being asked to avoid the area while the response and investigation continue.
Paine Field, also known as Snohomish County Airport, is a major aviation facility serving the Seattle-area region. The airport handles general aviation, corporate aircraft and commercial passenger flights, and is also home to numerous aircraft and Boeing operations.
