A dead body was recovered from San Francisco Bay Tuesday afternoon during a rescue response between Alcatraz Island and Treasure Island, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
SFFD crews responded around 2:15 p.m. after receiving a report of an incident in the bay. An SFFD paramedic evaluated the person and confirmed that it was a body recovery, according to the SFFD.
Authorities have not released the person’s identity or said what led to them being in the water. It was also not immediately clear how or when the person entered the bay.
The U.S. Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Department’s police boat and drone unit, and a California Highway Patrol helicopter also responded to the scene.
