Sixteen people, including 4 juveniles, were injured Thursday after a stolen car crashed into an MTA bus in Baltimore City, Maryland, following a police pursuit.
Baltimore Police Chief said officers responded at about 12:48 p.m. to a report of a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled from officers and shortly afterward crashed into the MTA bus at the intersection of East Oliver Street and North Wolfe Street.
The vehicle was carrying 4 juveniles who police said had stolen the car. Their ages and identities were not released.
Baltimore Fire Chief said crews arriving at the scene found multiple patients inside both the bus and the vehicle. A mass casualty incident was declared, bringing 14 medic units to the scene.
A total of 16 patients were transported to local hospitals. Several were in critical condition, while others were seriously injured. The majority suffered minor injuries.
The MTA bus driver was also taken to a hospital. Fire officials said the driver was awake and talking when crews arrived.
The crash initially brought Baltimore police, Baltimore Fire and the Maryland Transit Administration to the scene. East Oliver Street and North Wolfe Street were closed as emergency crews responded.
The situation remains under investigation.
