The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to Miami International Airport on Wednesday afternoon following reports of shots fired.
The incident happened on 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, deputies quickly responded and took a person into custody. There is no ongoing threat to the public, MDSO said.
It remains unclear whether the shots were fired inside or outside the airport. The investigation is ongoing.
Miami International Airport said the departure-level roadway and the terminal area between Doors 12 and 17 were temporarily closed because of law enforcement activity.
Vehicle traffic was being diverted to the arrivals level. Travelers were advised to allow extra time and follow directions from law enforcement and airport personnel.
The airport said all passengers and employees were safe and that it was working with MDSO at the scene.
