A U.S. Air Force major in Maryland is facing 128 charges related to child sex abuse material after authorities found more than 120 videos and images on his electronic devices.
Richard F. Gayson, 34, of Fort Washington, was indicted Wednesday following an investigation that began after authorities were alerted to suspected child pornography uploaded to a cloud storage service.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified police late last year about 21 videos uploaded on Dec. 12, 2025. Investigators traced the material to Gayson, according to Fox Baltimore.
Police interviewed Gayson early this year before obtaining a search warrant for several of his electronic devices. Authorities seized laptops, phones and external storage drives during the search.
Investigators later found much of the suspected material on a 64GB thumb drive and two phones, according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Gayson was arrested May 6 and initially held without bond. A judge later ordered him released to private home detention on July 10.
His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9, according to court records.
