Second bird flu detection in raw milk sparks new recall in California

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a second warning to Californians, advising against consuming another batch of raw milk from Raw Farm, LLC after a new retail sample tested positive for the bird flu virus. The affected lot has been recalled.

CDPH strongly urged consumers to avoid the impacted raw milk but noted that no human bird flu cases linked to the product have been reported.

Raw Farm, LLC, located in Fresno County, voluntarily recalled the affected batch of cream-top whole raw milk. The recalled products are marked with the code number 20241119 and have a best-by date of December 7, 2024 (12/07/2024), on their packaging.

This marks the company’s second recall due to bird flu contamination. The first case was identified on November 24, when the County of Santa Clara Public Health Laboratory detected the virus in a separate retail sample of raw milk.

California currently accounts for half of the 59 confirmed human cases of H5N1 bird flu in the United States.
